Strategic Alliance between NSF International & Merinov
NSF International and Merinov have entered into a strategic alliance to offer advisory services to Quebec's fish and seafood industry in terms of quality and food safety, thereby facilitating access to foreign markets.
The Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) has become a condition of access to exports for all companies of the food industry. In Quebec, 46 companies with a federal fish and seafood processing license out of 62 come from the Gaspe, the Magdelen Islands and the North Coast regions. Of these, only five of have a GFSI certification.
Thanks to this new alliance, NSF International, a recognized independent quality and food safety expert, particularly for seafood products, and Merinov, are addressing, among other things, the challenges of recruiting skilled workers; a constraint for the implementation and monitoring of these standards.
This partnership also highlights the very high quality of the processes and products of Quebec processing industry. It is a key initiative to help the industry to meet the highest regulatory standards in order to develop or maintain international market shares and to keep pace with trends.
Merinov and NSF International are leveraging their respective strengths and expertise in the area of quality and food safety. This collaboration takes place through various components, including:
• Pre-qualification for a GFSI initiative
• Preparation for GFSI certification
• Maintenance and monitoring of the quality system
"Merinov is a great partner and this strategic agreement underscores our commitment to provide solutions to positively impact sea product processing companies ' bottom line" said Serban Teodoresco, Global Managing Director, food division at NSF International." Merinov is recognised for its expertise and dynamism as well as for the quality of the technological solutions provided to the industry".
